The
Scene
There's a heavy bent toward local bands, but national acts do
roll in each month. Downstairs is where the headliners set up.
There's a huge space to jam in front of a large stage, two
good-sized bars, a coat check and a woody, smoky feel that works
quite well about midnight when the place is packed. Upstairs is
significantly smaller and brighter with a moderate bar.
Admission to each room is separate. The small stage upstairs in
the Corner is often home to eclectic music: sometimes acoustic,
sometimes jazz-oriented and always free.
The Food
The restaurant is nothing fancy: your basic coffeehouse setup,
with recycled treadle tables and scuffed-up captain's chairs,
but you'll find a wide array of classic Middle Eastern dishes to
choose from. |

The
Experience
Do you like that feeling you suddenly drop a few thousand feet
on a plane, or when a roller coaster seems about ready to pull
off its tracks? Then it's time to pay a visit to the Museum of
Science's Mugar Omni Theatre, the only place in Boston to catch
wide-format Imax movies. Recent renovations to the
theater--including a new digital sound system, carpet and
seats--add both to the thrill and your comfort.
Features
You won't see big blockbuster hits here, but you still get
plenty of bang for your buck. Imax films are of the
"infotainment" variety--enjoyably educational (think
"Nova" and "National Geographic" specials).
Price
Adults $7.50; seniors/children $5.50

Located
just a block away from Comm. Ave. and Allston's college-bar
district, this is a surprisingly tidy little theater. Although
it doesn't have digital sound, Allston does boast Dolby stereo
surround sound, pretty sophisticated for a two-screen cinema.
Most features are either blood-and-gore flicks or sci-fi
thrillers--in other words, films for frat boys. |
